Paid sick days are vital for working families.
Today, over 500,000 working people in Connecticut lack paid sick days. They include workers who cook and prepare our food, drive our kids to school and take care of the sick and elderly. For workers without paid sick days, losing pay — or even your job — can be as easy as catching the flu.
In these tough times, no one can afford to miss pay or risk their job. The result is, people come to work sick. And that’s not just unhealthy for them — it creates a real public health risk for coworkers and the general public too.
No one should have to make the impossible choice between their health and their job.
Connecticut Working Families is leading the Everybody Benefits coalition for paid sick days which is advocating for legislation to create a basic workplace stand for paid sick days to protect working families and the public health. Our broad coalition includes public health professionals, women’s organizations, small business owners, school nurses, teachers and unions.
