Something Remarkable

May 23rd, 2011

When eighteen Connecticut State Senators passed the paid sick days bill, they did something pretty remarkable.

Think about what’s going on around the nation. From Scott Walker to Chris Christie, politicians are trying to out-do each other, competing over who can be the most anti-worker. Hundreds of members of Congress are supporting a plan to eliminate Medicare as we know it. But here in Connecticut, eighteen state senators did the right thing.

They voted to raise standards for some of the state’s most vulnerable workers, and to improve the health of our entire state. Pretty amazing.

Will you sign our thank you card to the eighteen State Senators who voted for the paid sick days bill?

The bill is expected to get a vote in the State House next week. In the mean time, we need to keep the momentum going on the campaign for one more week.

After you sign the thank you card, we’ll direct you to a page where you can contribute to keep our campaign going, and give us the momentum we need to pass the bill in the House of Representatives. You’ll be part of making history here in Connecticut. If you haven’t given yet, please consider contributing $25 to keep us going.

What the Senate did is all the more amazing, considering the enormous pressure they faced from big business lobbyists to fold. We spend plenty of time bashing politicians. But when they do the right thing, they deserve some recognition for it.

When you sign, you can add your own comments for the Senators who voted for paid sick days.

Join us in signing our thank you card to the Senators who voted YES.

Thanks for your ongoing support. We’re close to the finish line. After you sign, please help us get there by making a contribution to our campaign to keep the campaign going full-tilt for just one more week.

Thanks.
